چکیده

The paper is about a class of languages that extends context-free languages (CFL) and is stable under shuffle. Specifically, we investigate the class of partially-commutative context-free languages (pc CFL), where non-terminal symbols are commutative according to a binary independence relation, very much like in trace theory. The class has been recently proposed as a robust class subsuming CFL and commutative CFL. This paper surveys properties of pc CFL. We identify a natural corresponding automaton model: stateless multi-pushdown automata. We show stability of the class under natural operations, including homomorphic images and shuffle. Finally, we relate expressiveness of pc CFL to two other relevant classes: CFL extended with shuffle and trace-closures of CFL. Among technical contributions of the paper are pumping lemmas, as an elegant completion of known pumping properties of regular languages, CFL and commutative CFL.

Partially-commutative context-free graphs

This thesis is about an extension of context-free grammars with partial commutation on nonterminal symbols. In particular, we investigate the subclass with transitive dependence relation and the corresponding automaton model: stateless multi-pushdown automata. The results of the thesis are divided into three chapters. The first chapter investigates language expressivity of concerned classes. Ro...

A description of the non-sequential execution of Petri-nets in partially commutative linear logic

We encode the execution of Petri nets in Partially Commutative Linear Logic, an intuitionistic logic introduced by Ph. de Groote which contains both commutative and non commutative connectives. We are thus able to faithfully represent the concurrent firing of Petri nets as long as it can be depicted by a series-parallel order. This coding is inspired from the description of context-free languag...

Complexity of Problems of Commutative Grammars

We consider commutative regular and context-free grammars, or, in other words, Parikh images of regular and context-free languages. By using linear algebra and a branching analog of the classic Euler theorem, we show that, under an assumption that the terminal alphabet is fixed, the membership problem for regular grammars (given v in binary and a regular commutative grammar G, does G generate v...

Complexity of Problems for Commutative Grammars

We consider Parikh images of languages accepted by non-deterministic finite automata and context-free grammars; in other words, we treat the languages in a commutative way — we do not care about the order of letters in the accepted word, but rather how many times each one of them appears. In most cases we assume that the alphabet is of fixed size. We show tight complexity bounds for problems li...
